DFW: Scattered Areas of Light Sleet Expected Tonight (Wed 11/12)

This will be a very brief update to mention the possibility of very light sleet in North Texas tonight.   An upper-level disturbance is moving into Texas, and will provide sufficient (albeit weak) forcing for precipitation.  Temperatures will fall to near freezing in the metroplex and below freezing for areas north of Denton by 10 pm.  As always, if you encounter sleet while driving, exercise caution and slow down.  While I do not expect significant problems, I can’t rule out a few slick spots on bridges and overpasses.

This infrared satellite image at 6:45 pm CST shows the upper-level disturbance to the west.

Again, forcing is weak and moisture is scant; but don’t be surprised to hear the pings of a few ice pellets on your windows tonight.

A better chance of winter precipitation will present itself on Sunday.
