Fire Danger for Thursday, March 20 To Saturday
Dry and windy conditions will continue into the weekend. Sunday afternoon, a front will bring the chance for rain mainly east of I-35. A few storms may be strong to severe. Be on the lookout for our daily forecast the next couple days for any updates regarding these storms!
Past Fire Alerts for North and West Texas
Last Friday’s Fire Weather Watch was been expanded to include ALL of North & Central TX. Very low humidity and wind gusts up to 65 mph will result in a critical to extreme wildfire threat. Wildfire containment will be very challenging.
Curious when the last time the Storm Prediction Center issued a Day 2 Extreme Fire Weather Outlook for the North Texas area?
- Before today, portions of Denton/Cooke/Grayson have NEVER had one. Rest of the area was mostly 2009!
- A small area SW was in one for last Tuesday

Tomorrow’s fire threat is UNUSUAL & needs to be taken VERY seriously! Do YOUR part to prevent wildfires:
🚫AVOID outdoor burning
🛻Secure tow chains
🚬NEVER toss lit cigarettes
🚒Contact law/fire if you smell smoke/see fire
Fire Danger Threat is not going to end soon as you can see from these maps below:
We certainly do not want anything on our hands like we did last year with the Smokehouse Creek fire.
